Name: Greg Jao

Church: Still looking for one. (Just arrived in NYC a few months ago.)

Organization: InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA http://www.intervarsity.org

Position: Regional Director for New York/New Jersey

Start date: Aug 96

Mission: InterVarsity's vision is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed, and world-changers developed. As regional director for New York/New Jersey, I lead the 50+ staff on 60+ campuses to establish and advance witnessing communities of students and faculty to declare Jesus as Savior and Lord. NY/NJ is the most ethnically diverse ministry in InterVarsity, with particular depth in Asian American ministry. My primary responsibilities involve leadership development for staff, teaching/preaching at churches and colleges, and strategy development for our ministry. We're praying for and working towards doubling the number of students we serve in the next few years.

Transition well to NY/NJ (I'm a Chicago native)
Skill as I lead a geographically-dispersed team
Depth in my relationship with God

2006 short-fall: $500/month

Fiscal year: July - June

2006 Goals: Develop strategic plan which will double the number of students served and converted through our ministry; bring financial stability to our ministry; develop relationships with Chinese churches in NYC; strengthen our prayer support

2005 Blessings: A smooth transition to a new ministry location; increased numbers of students participating and converted by our ministry; opportunities to teach at 5-7 churches last year.

I love what I do because: a strong university campus ministry shapes the leaders of every institution in the world - including churches. I love developing and investing in student leaders who will graduate equipped to serve the church, change the world, and honor God.

Something about me I would like you to know: I am the product of the Chinese churches of Chicago. They introduced me to Jesus, offered me opportunities to serve, and nurtured me with their support and prayer. I look forward to learning how to serve the churches here in NYC - both by strengthening the partnership between InterVarsity and the local church, but also by offering training for lay leaders (on Bible study, evangelism, leadership development, missions, etc.) or pulpit supply if a Sunday or retreat speaker is needed.
